Calling all tuna-lovers: a favourite high-protein snack!

Jump to Recipe

This recipe is by far the simplest one to put together. It is low calorie and protein-dense while giving spotlight to all the right fats. It is perfect for a post-gym protein-boost as well as just a nutrient-rich snack at any point in the day!

The cucumber provides a refreshing basis that provides hydration due to the high water content. The other main constituent is fibre. This aids in digestion and helps to keep blood sugar levels nice and stable.

Now…. onto tuna!

Tuna is one of my absolute favourite sources of protein. It can be an acquired taste, but I recommend incorporating it into your diet for a variety of reasons. Along with being high in protein (most tins contain ab0ut 20g each), it is also a source of omega-3 fatty acids.

These fats keep your brain happy and promote heart and eye health too. Tuna also serves as a source of vitamin D, which holds great benefit for your immune system and keeps your bones strong. The vitamin B12 in tuna also aids in keeping your brain healthy and can help prevent anaemia. Lastly, the magnesium content is also beneficial for bone health and helping your body synthesise proteins and energy in the body.

Overall this snack fills me up every time without being too calorie-dense, provides me with a needed protein and micronutrient boost during my active days, and provides all the right fats to give my brain and body what it needs to function optimally. Enjoy!
